1950 — The Beginning Herbert Lightburn invented the original Handy Cutter, a low-cost tool designed to open shipping cartons more safely than a razor blade. It quickly became the go-to for grocery chains and shipping departments across the US, and a company was born.

2018 — Klever™ Joins the Family The acquisition of Klever brought patented concealed blade technology into our portfolio, expanding our USA manufacturing capabilities and deepening our commitment to eliminating laceration hazards.

2020 — Building for the Future Significant investment in our California and Michigan operations upgraded our manufacturing infrastructure, strengthened global distribution, and set the stage for accelerated growth.

2021 — Slice® Joins the Family Founded by T.J Scimone in 2008 on the belief that cutting tools should be safer and smarter, Slice brought ceramic finger-friendly® blades and award-winning ergonomic designs to SPG - adding over 50 specialized tools to our portfolio.

2024 — Committed to Sustainability SPG launched a series of recycled-plastic safety cutters, giving companies a simple, ongoing way to divert plastic waste and meet their ESG goals. SPG continues to identify manufacturing and product solutions to further reduce our carbon footprint.
